Healthier Together: the double win competition

Healthier Together

From Thursday 14/04 until Wednesday 04/05, we are hosting the lifestyle program “Healthier Together”. This three-week online program is designed scientifically with the aim to promote the health of our
own NXP colleagues, friends, and family.

During these three weeks, you will participate in a team of your choice against other teams. Every week, you will receive a set of healthy suggestions in a web application. Everybody will win; insights into your own health and a taste of a healthier lifestyle. Besides, there will be a fun prize for the winning team! The competition is aimed at studying different motivations for certain types of participants.

1. What is GameBus?

GameBus is an app that rewards teams for playing together healthy, social, cognitive, and physical activities.

GameBus is an app that allows families or teams of colleagues to keep each other healthy through fun competitions. Participants are challenged to engage in cognitive, social, and physical activities so that everyone is allowed to win through activities they truly enjoy. External apps and devices are linked, and all activity data is treated ethically under the property of the participant.

Teams

People can make teams and challenge other teams. Meanwhile, performing healthy activities is central. Participants decide with whom they want to form a team. Teams can be comprised of colleagues, friends, family, or anyone they can think of.

Activities

When participants have joined a team, they can perform activities. These activities can be completed in two ways. First, there are activities organized by the developers of GameBus. These activities belong to the competition and are rewarded with points. The second type of activity is planned and made by the participant. Most activities are recorded in the background to not have to constantly look at a screen.

Categories of the activities

With GameBus, it is possible to register activities in three health categories: physical, cognitive, and social activities. An example of the physical category is the automatic registration of jogging or cycling activities. In principle, this concerns all physical activities that can already be registered with existing apps, such as the popular apps Strava and Runkeeper. The information GameBus needs for these physical activities are retrieved from these types of apps, of course, with the users’ consent.

Activities such as: running, cycling, calorie count…

Regarding cognitive activities, Gamebus supports two types of games. This again concerns external apps that are linked, whereby information is passed on to Gamebus in the background. For instance, the app Griddlers consists of solving various number puzzles. This includes Sudoku’s that can be solved via the Griddlers app as well as via puzzle books. When a user has created these riddles in a booklet, of course, we cannot retrieve the information automatically. However, the user can still enter the results manually in the GameBus app in such a case.

Activities such as: chess competition, puzzles, board games…

Finally, social activities have been considered. In this category, we support a continuous GPS registration from the so-called GameBus Messenger app. Based on GPS and WI-Fi, we can immediately deduce with whom you have a physical, social interaction in the real world. This gives you an extra health bonus; in addition to physical sport, social interaction keeps you extra healthy.

Activities such as: All above activities but together with a teammate.

Different game types are thus brought together in an integrated score. A team can add up these points and play against other teams. Different points are awarded to players of different age categories to make it possible for everyone to win.

Score and rewards

GameBus also provides an overview of individual performance. This is only visible to the individual. The activities performed in the competition are visible to the entire team and competitors. The winner of the competition will receive a nice price.

2. Healthier Together social Competition

Healthier Together is an online lifestyle program offered to anyone affiliated with NXP that wants to get (back) to the top of their game and achieve those New Year resolutions. The social factor is central in this competitive game. Therefore, friends, family, and everyone you know is welcome to participate. Healthier Together is a competition in which teams compete against other teams. Who is in your team is entirely up to the participants.

Everyone can accomplish tasks and earn points for their team. This competitive game starts on the 14th of April and ends on the 4th of May. Will your team have the most points in the end? Then, they win the prize!

3. Privacy and security

As you have already read in the above topics, privacy and security are key points of GameBus. Participants can decide to use a fake name and temporary email address. The user can always determine what they want to share and what not. GameBus’ privacy policy can be found here.
